A lot of people come to me asking for my help, although I can’t help everyone I try to enlist my Texas Twins Events Team when a cause is dear to my heart. I care about their story and I care about their journey.Yesterday afternoon Debbie contacted me on FB (my account name is Wendy Thomas Wortham) to find out how we could help her with covering a new deductible this year. I suggested setting up a GoFundMe account and listing her specific reasons for needing assistance Debbie Poteet GoFundMe worried that no one would care about her struggle, I assured her that there are many people just like me who not only care but also wanted to help her. I also committed myself and my team to have a bake sale or raffle off an item in my Texas Twins Treasures Inventory to help cover the shortage which is why I’m writing the blog on this website rather than Texas Twins Events or The Pawning Planners or Texas Twins TV because as my dedicated readers know, I’m the only author of five different websites posting creative content based on my unique journey in the wedding and events industry offering low cost or no cost events for families who would otherwise never be able to afford a Life Event which is why we call them Dream Events.
When I’m frequently asked why I go to such great lengths to help strangers, my answers are that I am the person I’ve never met and, I’ve been poor myself so I understand the struggle.
When families have no money or anything of value to provide in exchange for services, my Texas Twins Treasures storefront funds them by selling my refurbished inventory, Pawning Planners Apparel or personal items to fund them. Why? Don’t ask me why ask yourself why not! Hundreds of families have come to me for help and hundreds of families have benefitted because I understood that no one else would help them and created unique and diverse businesses to help these struggling consumers myself.
When my dear friend, Glenda Patterson passed away in Colorado last year, her daughter Tara contacted me frightened of how she could ever find the funding to return Glenda to Texas and also cover the funeral and flowers. I suggested a GoFundMe account and handcrafted the funeral flowers myself while acting as a funeral clergy to oversee the memorial Funeral For a Friend- Wendy Wortham. While I was shocked and deeply saddened by a sudden death- I reacted swiftly and quickly by sharing her GoFundMe page to my huge social network. My friends, twins and connections exceeded the requested amount because, like me, they understood the issues facing low to middle income families. When I created Texas Twins Events years ago, my original plan was to help families that couldn’t afford a wedding officiant by offering my services at 75% less than traditional pricing. For families still unable to pay me, I worked for free. Recognizing that many families couldn’t afford wedding flowers for the family or photography- I spent another two years buying flowers and creating an extensive inventory of floral designs, bouquets, bouteniers and centerpieces along with camera equipment to overcome the issue of inability to pay for such luxuries.
Recently I was nominated for Women of Distinction Magazine for my “unique and creative contribution to the wedding and events industry.” The editor asked why anyone would go to such great lengths to help strangers and I advised her that giving these families the wedding that I never had was important to me because I realized how special an event with family and friends was while recognizing that the majority of families could never afford the “average cost” of a wedding at $5-20k. In fact many of our families have less than $500 and twenty percent no money at all. Being creative to find ways around the limits of finance relied heavily on my unique ability to go over, around or through such barriers which is why I’m often called the Wedding Warrior!
Cindy and I know Debbie and Hannah because they live in Weatherford where my twin also resides and the Little Pawners, Maryssa and Makenna attend school. When I’m asked how I attained a huge social media the answer is simple- hard work and dedication! I spend hours retweeting, liking and sharing my connections posts. I don’t use bots or “quick fixes” instead, I manually support my connections daily and in turn, they support me. Having a strong relationship with venue vendors helps but, we support our vendors by sharing their posts, liking their photos and promoting them to our network. Social media is time consuming (up to 4 hours a day) and not a “given.” You work for your network and they work for you!
GoFundMe isn’t for folks who want money for a beach vacation or new car- it is for families who have a genuine need.
While I can’t help everyone who comes to me, I can give them insight on finding help and fundraising.
Changing the wedding and events industry one family at a time hasn’t been easy or inexpensive for me but what it has been is a labor of love and a journey with my multigenerational family of finding new friends and giving them a gift that keeps giving from Fort Worth, Texas! My dear friend Rebecca Bowman is making a beautiful multicolor tutu to auction off along with my refurbished table to help raise money for this family. A community “coming together” isn’t unique it’s “old school” and an effective way to raise money while helping others.
Volunteering your time and your talent can give hope to many while inspiring your family to volunteer. My legacy will be one of jumping in and doing whatever I can to help those who have no one else because I am the person that I’ve never met as is my twin sister, Cindy Daniel who may be saucy and sarcastic but is as filled with compassion as I am. We are a TwinTeam…

Wedding photos without flowers wouldn’t be the same and wedding flowers are very expensive for a “family on a budget.”
When my son married five years ago, I made all of the bouquets, boutenniers, corsages and centerpieces myself to save money using “Real Touch” flowers. It was not an easy task but after successfully undertaking it- I realized my knack for creating beautiful designs that can be used over and over again thus saving money for our clients by loaning them floral designs.
Hundreds of families have been thrilled upon learning that “I’ve thought of everything” to make their Dream Event not only affordable but beautiful too!
From start to finish- I’ve planned and executed everything for a budget wedding that on a few occasions included even loaning a wedding dress to Brides because I understand the struggle to afford “extras.” Overcoming the issues was never easy- buying the flowers and creating the designs took years for me to “build my inventory.”
My Texas Twins Events Team and I “go the extra mile” for a very basic reason- we understand the plight of consumers who have nowhere else to turn and are committed to exceeding our clients expectations. When families can’t afford photos- we gift them to ensure that our clients have lifelong memories of their Dream Event.
I’m often asked why we go to such great lengths to overcome everything that stands in the way of folks who are on a tight budget. My answer is simple, I’ve been where you are struggling to give my son a beautiful affair while my husband was unemployed for three years following the real estate crash in 2007.
I quickly realized that everything from the wedding dress to the flowers to the photos was an incredibly expensive endeavor!
Finding ways to “get around” the expenses involved was my way of creating a unique and diverse business that caters to families and puts their needs ahead of profit.
Today as I prepare to meet a couple marrying in the Botanic Garden and picking up a wedding dress being “donated to my cause,” I realize that while many folks might be confused as to why I started this business to give the gift of hope for any family regardless of their income, I made the right decision.

Texas Twins Treasures offer refurbished items taken in trade from families who could not afford a Dream Event.
Many Dream Events are a luxury that a “paycheck to paycheck” family can’t afford due to the exhorbitant costs of weddings, anniversaries, baptisms and more.
When I set out to “change the wedding and events industry one family at a time from Fort Worth, Texas,” I created Texas Twins Events to offer low costs services that included religious ceremonies, photography and floral designs Texas Twins Events was started after my son married and I realized how expensive a wedding actually is for parents who want the best for their children but, are far from rich. The families we cater to don’t have 10-20k and many cannot even afford $500. My target market is diverse and based on the low to middle class consumer who has nowhere else to turn and why we call our events “Dream Events.”
After operating successfully for three years, it became apparent to me that still more families needed our help that couldn’t afford the low cost options at Texas Twins Events and so I again made changes in order to assist these families by creating yet another business entity that takes trades for our wedding and event services called the “Pawning Planners.” The Pawning Planners- We Take Trades! By refurbishing and reselling items, my Texas Twins Events Team recovers our expenses for travel, film development and salaries of the team.
While it may sound like an odd adventure- we’ve met hundreds of thankful families who understand how I found a “niche” based on my own experiences with wedding vendors.
Texas Twins Treasures items also fund families who have no money to hire us through Texas Twins Events or, have nothing to trade through the Pawning Planners. Why? Because I’m committed to helping anyone and while we can’t take many sponsored events- based on a families story and desire for an event, I often make an exception and sponsor events myself.
Creating a business based on people over profit was never an “easy choice.” All of my businesses required a financial investment attained by selling our Dream Home along with thousands of hours creating a floral inventory so that families who could not afford wedding bouquets, bouteniers, corsages, centerpieces and decorations could “borrow” my inventory to ensure a beautiful ceremony.
Secondly, I needed a staff to assist me as it would be humanly impossible to officiate the ceremony and take the photos while decorating the venue and handling last minute “emergencies.” My staff is compromised of my multigenerational family. My twin sister, Cindy Daniel helps me with set up and is great at entertaining the guests when the couple are running late. My son and his wife, Robert and Stephanie Hafele handle all of the photography and videography while our twin grand daughters, Maryssa and Makenna Mahaney work as flower girls, ring bearers and ushers as well as helping with children in the wedding party. My Godmothet, Virginia Malone assists with scheduling and my various public appearances while my step daughter Ann Alexander, assists the entire team by making runs to the store and assisting with every aspect of planning and execution at events. When we have a need for construction at an event, my husband, Matthew Wortham and brother in law, Steve Daniel step in to assist us. My dedicated web designe handles all phases of my five different websites and all blogs are written by me personally.
The Texas Twins Team are the primary reason for the success of my initial endeavor as they quickly realized how important what we do for these families actually is to them. We will be selling tshirts and coffee cups featuring my twin sister, Cindy Daniel’s Redneck Reality #Cindyisms to help us sponsor needy families who have no money or trades with every dollar going towards sponsored events. Our journey of finding trades we can accept and refurbish is often hilarious and with a team of compensating personalities, we enjoy the time that working a family business together has given us.
As we move to 2016, I appreciate my dedicated followers, social network connections and our clients. The story of my journey Travels of the Texas Twins Events Team is currently a “work in progress” of my experiences with clients and the team with a few funny stories of unexpected dramas and disasters I’ve written about in my blogs and how we worked as a team to overcome them.
Thank you for visiting Texas Twins Treasures and please understand that we cannot ship furniture or guarantee services on trades without appraising the items. My knowledge of high end furnishings spans some 25 years and I’ve also worked as a model and am familiar with couture clothing and jewelry. I cannot accept trades of livestock or vehicles that aren’t running or guns for various reasons and the freight added with the packing of furniture is at the buyers expense unless you are picking up from our location in Fort Worth, Texas. All items that fit in a priority box or envelope are shipped via USPS Priority Mail to ensure speedy delivery.
